Kalua
2002 black Trakehner filly
Bred by Sovereign Farm
Sired by Heling,
out of Kalliste by Amadeus
Kalua was our first foal out of the imported mare Kalliste, as well as her only daughter born at Sovereign Farm. Kalua will replace her dam in our mare herd.
Kalua is a very special filly here at Sovereign Farm and we are thrilled to have bred her. She has large, uphill gaits and enthusiastically shows them off at every opportunity.
Her correct conformation, balanced movement and bold personality have all contributed to an excellent start in a promising show career. In 2004, her first year showing at rated USDF/Cosequin Series shows, she earned a Champion or Reserve Champion Filly title at each of the competitions entered, both in Arizona and in California. She was also awarded the Grand Championship at the CARA Sport Horse Show in March, 2004. Because of her successes throughout the season, Kalua was the American Trakehner Association Two-Year-Old Filly Horse of the Year as well as the USDF All-Breeds Champion Two-Year-Old Trakehner Filly.
In 2005, Kalua continued her winning show career. In addition to being named Champion of the ATA's first in-hand portion of the new Futurity, she was once again the Champion Trakehner Filly for her age division and was the USDF All-Breeds Champion 3 Year Old Trakehner filly. Her 77.7% median also placed her 7th in the USDF HOY National rankings. Kalua was started under saddle early in her pregnancy and she will resume her training in 2007.
We are pleased to announce that Kalua had a beautiful filly, Kapri, by the 1999 Neumünster Champion Stallion Freudenfest. Kapri is the first foal by Freudenfest born in the USA and is available for sale.
Kalua had a beautiful dark bay filly, Kenya, by the Elite Trakehner stallion Lehndorff's in March 2007. Kalua is once again in foal to E.H. Lehndorff's and we are hoping for a repeat of this cross in 2009!
Kalua’s sire Heling came to North America in 2001 and is a son of the CCI*** eventer Bukephalos. He is out of the Irish TB mare Ballyvergin Lady xx, who in combination with the famous Pasteur xx produced the Trakehner Main mare book registered TB Bachkantate xx. Her daughters E.St. Bunbury and E.St. Banteer (both by Parforce) evented at CCI*** levels in Europe and are successful brood mares today. The full sister to Bukephalos, Balzjagd, is also dam of the approved Balzflug by Habicht, who was a FEI dressage stallion in the Netherlands and has had quite some influence on both the Trakehner and KWPN breeds in Europe.
Heling had made a name for himself as a good mare producer in Germany and is now stationed at Galten Farms in Canada. His dam Halima was a daughter of the major sire EH Consul, a stallion with tremendous influence in the Trakehner, Hanoverian and also Oldenburg breeds worldwide. His offspring included many outstanding stallions (e.g. E.H. Rockefeller), champion mares (his Hanoverian daughter Cleopatra produced the champion Don Frederico, and also the Olympic Gold medalist Bonaparte is out of a Consul-daughter), and exceptional performance horses at all disciplines and levels (e.g. Crisp, Olympic dressage in 2004 in Athens).
Heling is a member of the Horsa mare family (designation O 44A Horsa / Bösel-Altenrade) and hence shares the family with the stallions Hannibal (UK), Hortus and the 2007 premium stallion Herzog von Heidenroth.
Kalua’s dam Kalliste lived with us here at Sovereign Farm until her death in 2005.
