Carmine

2008 chestnut Trakehner mare
Bred by Sovereign Farm
Sired by Tolstoi, out of Cara Bella by Buddenbrock

Carmine is a testament to the excellence of Trakehner breeding, embodying the qualities of athleticism, intelligence, and a willing temperament. Her lineage combines some of the most influential bloodlines in the Trakehner breed, making her a valuable asset to Sovereign Farm's breeding program.

Pedigree & Bloodlines

Sire: Tolstoi

Carmine's sire, Tolstoi, is a notable Trakehner stallion renowned for his contributions to sport horse breeding. He was sired by Kostolany, the 2009 Trakehner Stallion of the Year, known for producing outstanding sport horses across multiple disciplines. Tolstoi has upheld the legacy of his lineage through his own achievements and the success of his progeny.

Among Tolstoi"s most distinguished offspring are the Trakehner licensing champions Farinelli and Freudenfest, both of whom have made significant impacts in the breeding world. His bloodlines are known for producing highly trainable horses with excellent movement, making them sought-after competitors in dressage and eventing.

Dam: Cara Bella

Carmine's dam, Cara Bella, is a mare of exceptional quality, further enriching her pedigree. She is sired by E.H. Buddenbrock, a black elite stallion awarded the Elite title in 2007 due to the success of his offspring in competition and overall conformational excellence. Buddenbrock's influence is widespread, with his offspring excelling in dressage, eventing, and show jumping.

Buddenbrock produced numerous approved sons and international competitors, including the Grand Prix dressage stallions King Arthur TSF and Hinnerck TSF. His son Connery has also made a significant mark, siring two Reserve Champion stallions, Imperio and Editorial. Additionally, Buddenbrock's sire, E.H. Sixtus, was a FEI-level show jumper and remains the most influential son of the legendary stallion Habicht in breeding.

Buddenbrock's dam, the Elite mare Ballerina, produced multiple premium daughters and performance horses, including the National Champion mare Bandera and the Bundeschampionat finalist Blitz & Donner. Her lineage traces back to the influential Trakehner mare Blitzrot, whose family has produced stallions such as EH Benz, Blickfang, Bernstein, Baluster, and the Dutch dressage reformer Doruto.

The Caprimond Connection

Cara Bella's dam line further elevates her pedigree, as she is directly related to the renowned stallion EH Caprimond. Her dam, Coeur Neuf, is a full sister to Capri V, the dam of Caprimond-one of the most influential dressage sires in Trakehner history. Caprimond's legacy includes producing highly refined, rideable, and successful dressage horses, including EH Hohenstein, Partout (ridden by Anky van Grunsven), and multiple Grand Prix-level performers.

A full sibling to Cara Bella, Chianti, was selected as a stallion candidate for the Trakehner licensing, further proving the strength of this mare family. The lineage also extends to the premium mares Caprice V and Capriola (dam of the approved stallion Carlton), and notable sires such as Chateauneuf (successful in both dressage and show jumping at the advanced level).

Further strengthening this remarkable pedigree is the succession of stallions EH Mackensen, Herzbube, and Loretto. EH Mackensen played a pivotal role in Trakehner and Rhineland breeding after WWII, siring top competitors across disciplines. Herzbube produced international Grand Prix dressage horses, including the World Games medalist EH Heuriger. Lastly, Loretto, a son of the Thoroughbred stallion Pindar xx, connects this lineage to Ibikus, one of the breed's most significant sires.

Legacy & Potential

With a pedigree that intertwines some of the most esteemed bloodlines in Trakehner history, Carmine stands as a mare of exceptional promise. Her lineage is rich with sires and dams that have consistently produced elite sport horses, Grand Prix competitors, and influential breeding stock.

At Sovereign Farm, Carmine has continued this tradition, contributing her outstanding genetics to her premium daughter Cinderella by Tradition, and her son Charlie SF. We are lookiing forward to her next foal, due in Spring 2025, by the up-and-coming eventing stallion Suntory Gold.
